This is an update to a post from a few years ago explaining my position on discussing or naming my employer.
My position is still: I don't mention or discuss my employer. My employer spends a lot of money to represent itself on the web and it is not part of my responsibilities to assist or augment that work. I believe that each employee of a company has a responsibility to promote the success of their employer, and by extension to not link their employer to drivel that they post on their website.
I will however describe my company as a large multi-national corporation that is focused on insurance and financial services. I manage 4 development teams focused on various systems used in financial services operations.
In terms of this blog, I will use the alis of RBC (Real Big Company) to describe my employer. My readership is drawn almost exclusively from co-workers so I ask you to respect my position and not disclose the name of my employer in comments. I will delete comments that mention my employer by name.
